Spectrum requests handled almost without hitch Despite thousands of added communications transmitters, the World Cup caused few tie-ups to spectrum traffic. The FCC's Field Operations Bureau says frequency coordination efforts managed to prevent all but two instances of interference during the month-long tournament.

The commission in May altered its rules and authorized frequency coordinators at each World Cup venue to oversee frequency requests. During the tournament, the commission's field offices assigned approximately three staffers at each venue to monitor spectrum use.
