Commission asks whether service should be mandatory for wireless cable, SMATV, others Broadcast and cable engineers may not be the only ones shopping for new emergency alerting gear. The FCC is considering extending its new Emergency Alert System (EAS) requirements to wireless cable, video dialtone and satellite master antenna systems (SMATV).
In a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, the commission has proposed requiring wireless cable systems to carry the EAS decoders and also is inviting comment on whether it should require SMATV and video dialtone participation in the new system.
