In the second matchup between NBC's venerable Saturday Night Live and Fox's upstart Mad TV, the veteran soundly defeated the newcomer in the Saturday late-night time period.

On Saturday, Oct. 21,SNL averaged a 6.6 rating/19 share in Nielsen household numbers compared with Mad TV's 4.3/10. Among adults 18-49, NBC pulled in a 4.7 compared with Fox's 3.1. The two shows air against each for only half an hour--SNL airs at 11:30 p.m-12:30 a.m., and Mad airs at 11 p.m.-midnight. At 11:30-midnight, SNL beat Mad by 64% in households (6.9/17 versus 4.2/11) and by 63% in adults 1849 (4.9 versus 3.0).

This second airing was the fast matchup with both shows offering original episodes. On Oct. 14, when Mad TV premiered, NBC aired a "best-of" episode of Saturday...
