Cable whips up a strange brew; offbeat programing dresses up for Halloween.

Cable television's usual lineup of shows dealing with the unusual will be particularly strange this week as many top cable networks make way for Halloween tricks and treats.

One of cable TV's primary sources of offbeat programing, The Sci-Fi Channel, has been dedicating the entire month to Halloween-related programing. The three-year-old network has already learned the value of weird stunts, with highly rated marathons featuring such classic TV shows as The Twilight Zone and popular horror movies like the "Friday the 13th" series.

"We do a considerable amount of hosted stunts," says Barry Schulman, vice president, programing, Sci-Fi Channel. This week, for example, the network will wrap up its month of Halloween-related shows with a week of zombie...
