Oprah Winfrey and her production company Harpo Films have entered into a multiyear, exclusive deal with The Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group. Under the pact, Harpo will produce theatricals--some of which Winfrey is expected to star in--during the next five years. One of the projects being developed for the big screen is "Beloved," based on the Pulitzer Prize--winning novel by Toni Morrison.

It also was announced that screenwriter Richard LaGravenese, who most recently wrote the screenplay for "The Bridges of Madison County," will write the screenplay for "Beloved."
