Advisory committee endorses Grand Alliance plan for conversion to digital; rulemaking is next step The FCC's Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service has recommended the Grand Alliance system as the next TV broadcasting standard. The recommendation, reached after eight years of work, places the digital transmission system in the hands of the FCC.

The commission plans to launch a rulemaking in January 1996 to adopt the system as the U.S. broadcasting standard.
