A group of Canadian broadcasters is taking DBS maker Thomson Consumer Electronics to court to try to block it from distributing its RCA-brand direct satellite system (DSS) hardware in Canada. The coalition, supported by Canadian program producers and distributors, claims that the sale of Thomson's RCA 18-inch satellite dish and receiver in Canada represents "unfair competition" and a "very serious challenge to [the] Canadian broadcasting system" by providing Canadian viewers with the means to receive U.S.

TV programing not licensed in Canada.
