FCC chairman also takes aim at radio and television liquor advertising FCC Chairman Reed Hundt says competition is driving away public service announcements and he wants to do something about it. He is calling on broadcasters to develop a code of conduct that would set a minimum requirement on the number of PSAs a station should run.

"It's very, very difficult in a competitive world...to continue to hold to traditional practices with respect to PSAs. Competition drives them off," Hundt said at a breakfast meeting at NAB '97. "We cannot be content to just let public service announcements dribble away or drift off to the less popular time zones or shows that have a smaller audience," he continued.
