Redistributing channels 60-69. (Federal Communications Commission)(Brief Article)

FCC commissioners last week wrapped up their effort to reallocate UHF spectrum m the channel 60-69 band. As the commission had proposed in July, channels 62, 63, 68 and 69 were allocated to public safety applications such as police and ambulance communications. The rest of the spectrum will be auctioned for commercial services.

The band currently is home to 97 analog TV stations, which will be allowed to continue operating in the band until the industry completes its shift to digital TV. Commission officials also plan to place some digital TV channels in the band during the broadcast industry's transition to digital TV.
