ESPN and ESPN2 combined accounted for 21% of all local ad sales revenue for basic cable, generating $6.05 per subscriber in 1997, according to Scan Bratches, ESPN VP of affiliate sales and marketing. The figures are based on a study by Bortz research. Bortz reported that basic cable networks overall generated $29.00 per sub last year, Bratches says.
