Broadcasting & Cable, October, 1998

An amended version of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act passed the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee late last week. The bill would require solicitors to obtain parental permission before culling personal data from children under age 12. The full Senate considers it next. Meanwhile, the Senate postponed action on the Internet Tax Freedom Act, already passed by the House, which would make the 'Net a free tax zone for three years.
