Broadcasting & Cable, November, 1998

The Justice Department says Chancellor Media Corp. can acquire California outdoor advertising firm Kunz & Co. for $39.5 million if it sells more than $5 million in outdoor assets. Chancellor and Kunz are head-to-head competitors in some markets. Together they would have had a "virtual monopoly in some areas and more than 60% of the market in others," Justice said last Thursday in a news release.

Chancellor must sell off billboards in lnyo, Kern and Kings counties, Calif., and Mojave County, Ariz. Chancellor, which is primarily a radio company, is acquiring billboards to provide its advertisers with additional advertising platforms.
