News venues climb, Disney and Lifetime are down, but wrestling continues to wallop Cable news channels surged in ratings for the second quarter of 1999, but wrestling reigned supreme, according to Nielsen Media Research provided by Discovery Networks. Neither war nor scandal nor shootings could displace wrestling and USA Network from the top ranking for the fourth straight quarter.

Of 30 top-rated cable programs for the period, 26 were Monday night World Wrestling Federation telecasts, with the sweat-and-bluster extravaganza taking 38 of the top 100 spots on USA.
