A variety of industry and activist groups have asked the Supreme Court to overrule a lower-court decision that would force the FCC to rewrite most of its broadcast-ownership rules. Last week, the FCC asked the high court to ignore them all. Although the FCC has its own objections to the lower-court decision, commission lawyers told the justices that there is insufficient ground to pursue its own appeal and that separate appeals by various broadcast companies, minority advocates and activists opposing media consolidation seek to limit the agency's flexibility in setting new rules.
