For sale: 82 Blockbusters owned by Cox Blockbuster Video's franchisee sector has had a busy week, with one major company pulling out of the video market and one New England chain joining the Fort Lauderdale-based giant. Last week Cox Cable Communications, a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, said it was leaving the video industry by selling its 82 Blockbuster stores.

Cox is Blockbuster's third-largest franchisee, with stores located on the Eastern seaboard. At one point it planned to have an additional 40 stores by the end of the year. Dave Andersen, VP of public affairs at Cox, said the move reflects the company's decision to get back to its core businesses--cable, newspapers, radio and automobile auctioning.
