Traditionally rivals, Hollywood studios rarely team up to produce a feature film. As recently reported in The New York Times, Paramount Pictures and the Walt Disney Company announced Sept. 9 that the two giants would jointly produce a fact-based drama of a rugby team stranded in the Andes and resorting to cannibalism to survive.

The movie is based on the 1974 book Alive, by Piers Paul Read, chronicling the team's months-long ordeal in South America.

The studios reported they would co-finance the project, with an expected production budget of $20 million.
