Even though the National Geographic video line has been around since 1985, moving distribution from Vestron Video to LIVE Home Video to WEA has weakened its visibility at the retail level. "The line has not been well-supported at retail in the past 18 months," says Todd Berman, vice president of marketing and distribution at National Geographic Television.

But, he believes, the company's new distribution agreement with Columbia TriStar Home Video should change that. "Columbia plans on putting a lot of emphasis on teaching the retailer how to use our product," Berman says. Part of the plan is to refocus retailer attention on National Geographic by letting dealers know that they should expect a steady stream of new releases from the line. ...
