Disney keeps tight grip on Snow White. (Walt Disney Home Video seeks to prevent early releases of Snow White)

Walt Disney Home Video is seeking "zero violations" on the street date of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the title that has set a new benchmark for the industry with 27 million units ordered. The shipment number, announced last week by Disney, puts Snow White on track to easily surpass its own Aladdin, recognized as the best-selling video of all time, with 24 million copies sold to consumers.

Disney executives believe that Snow White could hit the 30 million mark, with reorders, before going on moratorium in April. To ensure that Snow White does not appear prior to the Oct. 25 "will-call" date, the supplier was holding off shipments to many mass merchants and large retail accounts until the last minute.
