In the future, entertainment seekers of the digital age won't have far to walk between their TV set and the home computer. In fact, they won't have to budge at all, because video and computer services will emerge from the same gadget. The gadget in question is the TV/PC, combining garden-variety terrestrial reception with cable and satellite programming as well as offering a modern link to the Internet, all accessed by the same keypad.

This future is not so distant, at least in the view of Thomson Consumer Electronics, which earlier this month unveiled its prototype version of how a TV/PC will look and perform. Thomson's vision is called Genius Theatre, and the company is already promising to have production models on the market in 1997. Joseph P....
