The soundtrack of Titanic (Sony Classical/Sony Music Soundtrax) rode for 16 weeks atop album sales charts. More than 9 million units of Titanic have been shipped to retail outlets nationwide, and more than 7 million copies have sold through to U.S. consumers.
But Sony Classical didn't simply bob along in the wake of the film's historic popularity. "We spent an unbelievable amount of time and effort to maximize opportunities for sales, even as the film was in its 13th, 14th and 15th week at No. 1 at the box office. We maintained our own momentum," stressed Sean O'Sullivan, national director of promotion and marketing at Sony Classical.
