Tower sues competitors over 'Titanic' pricing

In a lawsuit sure to be closely followed by video specialists who have long complained about competitors' rock-bottom pricing of hit sell-through titles, major retailer Tower Records/Video is charging three competitors with predatory pricing of Paramount Home Video's Titanic.

Earlier this month, Tower parent MTS Inc., West Sacramento, Calif., filed suit in Sacramento Superior Court against Fry's Electronics and online retailers Reel.com and Shopping.com.

MTS requested a temporary injunction to prevent the defendants from selling the video below its wholesale cost, but that motion was denied by the court, according to company spokesman Louise Solomon. She acknowledged that her company was unable to...
