Sony modifies new PlayStation for DVD.(Sony Computer Entertainment )(Brief Article)

Video Business, March, 2000

* Sony Computer Entertainment moved quickly to modify its new PlayStation 2 console after reports surfaced late last week that users could manipulate the player to circumvent DVD regional coding. SCE will start shipping consoles with upgraded software and memory cards as early as this week.

The company has not ruled out a recall of earlier shipments, which topped 1 million units in Japan March 15. This is the second glitch for Sony's next-generation player, which was released to much fanfare March 4. Soon after its launch, users began to complain about malfunctioning memory cards.
