Snow White is being threatened by pirates. Speaking before a joint committee of Congress last week, Walt Disney Co. chairman and CEO Michael Eisner said Disney's plans to release the 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on DVD in the fall of 2001 could be derailed if safeguards against digital piracy aren't improved.
"It's one of the backbones of the company, and it could be gone forever," Eisner said. "We're considering not doing it." The Disney exec was joined by Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and other prominent CEOs in testifying at the two-day High Tech Summit on removing barriers to electronic commerce.
