Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedBertelsmann to the rescue for CDNow.(Brief Article)
Video Business, July, 2000 by Wilson, Wendy
CDNow found a friend in Bertelsmann last week when the international media company agreed to buy the financially troubled e-tailer for $3 per share, or about $117 million. CDNow will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Bertelsmann's e-Commerce Group as well as the parent company's "primary engine" for music commerce ventures in the world of online, mobile and broadband technologies.
Bertelsmann's agreement to acquire CDNow ends the e-tailer's long search for a buyer or major investor following news that it did not have sufficient cash flow to finish out the year (VB, 4-17).
