Game software publisher Electronic Arts acquired exclusive worldwide rights to develop, publish and distribute computer and videogames based on the phenomenally popular series of Harry Potter novels by J.K. Rowling and upcoming Warner Bros. film, Sorcerer's Stone. Under the deal, Electronic Arts will develop games for all current and next-generation videogame consoles as well as all hand held systems.
In addition, EA will create Potter games for online play. Electronic Arts division EA.com has exclusive programming rights for America Online's Games Channel and other AOL game areas, giving it a potential online audience of 25 million players.
