Ratings board tinkers to stay in step with technology NEWYORK--The videogame industry came through the recent Federal Trade Commission marketing-to-kids firestorm virtually unscathed, thanks in large part to the self-regulating, voluntary ratings system created and maintained by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

In addition to rating videogames for overall content and content descriptors, the ESRB's Interactive division monitors online sites, its Privacy Online Program keeps tabs of privacy issues and its Advertising Review Council looks at interactive entertainment TV and print ads.
