Nearly four years after it persuaded the studios to embrace revenue sharing, Blockbuster Video has begun to back away from it. Beginning this month, Blockbuster will no longer buy new releases from Buena Vista Home Entertainment on revenue-sharing terms. The move is the first in what is likely to be a series of such steps to lessen the retailer's dependence on the revenue-sharing model.

"We're all going to need to make changes. That goes for both retailers and studios," said BVHE president Robert Chapek. "The time frame for revenue sharing has been relatively small, and its time may now be coming to an end."
