Dolby Laboratories is coming to videogame showrooms with a new brand awareness campaign after discovering that millions of new consoles are being plugged into home theater surround audio systems. "What we have consistently heard from publishers such as Electronic Arts, and some console makers, is that up to one-third of the console gamers in North America are wiring their units into surround sound systems," Dolby manager of game developer relations Jack Buser said.
Analysts estimate the installed console base at 8.1 million PlayStation 2s, 1.73 million Xboxes and 1.62 million Game-Cubes. That would make roughly 4 million gamers who are really serious about their game audio. Dolby has launched an embryonic retailer support program to help...
