* In its first week on the market, Microsoft's new Xbox Live online game service sold 150,000 starter kits, nearly its entire stock nationwide, the company reported. Xbox Live is the broadband gaming encounter that allows users to compete against competitors from around the world and chat while they play (VB, 11-18).Xbox Live, which launched Nov.
15, is now the first broadband service to count 100,000 subscribers. Since each account user can sign on guests, Microsoft said more than 200,000 players took to Xbox Live in the first week. Xbox hardware experienced an 18% week-to-week increase, boosted by a holiday offer that includes the unit, a DVD remote and two games for $199.
