Starz Encore Group is driving across the U.S. in a jeep Liberty with a giant flat-panel TV in the back to showcase its Startz on Demand SVOD service, whereby users can pick from as many as 100 movies a month to watch for a flat rate. Representatives from Starz Encore and broadband cable company Altrio Communications are knocking on doors and asking if potential customers would like to check out the service.

"For us this is a test. It's completely grass-roots marketing," said Jeff Farr, director of strategic initiatives for Starz Encore. "You'd be amazed at the heads that turn, just to look at the remote control on top of the Jeep."
