Nintendo is shedding new light on the gaming market by shipping the Game Boy Advance SP, a souped-up version of the best-selling handheld device, to retailers on March 23. Prompted by consumer complaints regarding the GBA's poor gameplay visibility, Nintendo now offers a flip-screen design and front-lit LCD screen, allowing playability in nearly any lighting condition from pitch black to broad sunlight.

Due to the unit's compact size (about 3 x 3 x 1 inches), it will also be equipped with a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, offering 18 hours of uninterrupted game time (but only 10 hours with the lighting system turned on).
