Shipments of DVD players increased 35% in 2002 to a record 7.1 million, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. A total of 2.3 million units shipped in December alone, a 25% increase from the last month of 2001 .With prices for many DVD players and combination DVD/VHS units well below $100, the CEA projects annual shipments will reach 20.1 million in 2003.
Shipments of VCRs (not including digital VCRs) fell 9.2% to 13.5 million units in 2002, the CEA said.
