* A federal district court in Pennsylvania has handed SightSound Technologies an important victory in its 5-year-old patent infringement lawsuit against CDNow, clearing the way for the case to go before a jury in the spring. CDNow petitioned the court for a summary dismissal, claiming SightSound's patents--which cover the transfer of digital music and video files from one computer to another and involve collecting payment--were invalid.
Last week, the court rejected that request. A SightSound victory could put it on a collision course with anyone offering paid movie and music downloads via the Internet, such as studio-backed Movielink.
