* As the holiday buying season heats up, so too does the recurring look at violence in videogames. Last week, both the Entertainment Software Ratings Board and a media watchdog group weighed in on the subject. The ESRB announced an independent study showing that the vast majority of parents concur with the organization's content ratings.

Meanwhile, the annual Video Game Report Card from the National Institute for Media and the Family said too many young children are playing M-rated (for Mature) games and called for better retail enforcement and parental education to help the ratings system work as intended.
