Disney takes seat on DVD Forum committee: new steering member to 'focus on consumer'.(High-Definition DVD)

Walt Disney Pictures and Tevision has been elected to the steering committee of the DVD Forum, making it only the second Hollywood studio to join the standard-setting organization's executive board after Time Warner. The election comes as the studios seek to assert themselves in the increasingly feverish efforts to develop a standard for a new high-definition DVD format.

A bid for membership on the steering committee was also made by 20th Century Fox but was turned down. Fox only joined the 203-member Forum in December and lacked the tenure of many other candidates.
