In perhaps the boldest bid yet to use both the hardware and software sides of its business to achieve a strategic objective, Sony Corp. is planning to throw the full resources of its Hollywood studio into establishing a new generation of DVD developed largely by Sony's hardware engineers. Speaking to reporters last week at the Digital Hollywood conference in Santa Monica, Calif., Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment president Benjamin Feingold said the studio would begin issuing all new releases in the Blu-ray Disc high-definition format day-and-date with their standard DVD release as soon as the new hardware hits the market in the U.S.
