Lions Gate, Mattel enter Fairytopia: new Barbie franchise's first title set for March.(Suppliers)

Hoping to build on the success of its first four Barbie video premiere movies, Mattel will launch a new line of Barbie films tied to its Fairytopia line of dolls. Lions Gate Home Entertainment, which has released previous computer-generated Barbie movies, has been tapped to distribute the first film, Barbie Fairytopia.

Set for DVD and VHS on March 8 (prebook Feb. 1), Mattel plans to make a release of a franchise installment an annual spring rite. The deal marks the fifth CG Barbie movie released through Lions Gate's Family Home Entertainment (formerly part of Artisan).
