For the second year in a row, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will be the only studio with an Academy Award nominee for Best Picture available on DVD at the time of the ceremony. Ray Charles biopic Ray, which streets Feb. 1, will be the only Best Picture nominee in stores for the red carpet event Feb. 27. It also was poised to expand its theatrical run last weekend, after picking up six nominations in all, including Best Actor Jamie Foxx and Best Director Taylor Hackford.
Last year, Universal's Seabiscuit and Lost in Translation were the only Best Picture nominees out on video before the ceremony. In a scenario very similar to Ray's, Lost in Translation debuted on DVD Feb. 3 while still playing in hundreds of theaters. It was successful in both...
