Anticipation builds for Sony's PSP: Bundling pushes U.S. price to $249.(Videogames)

For months, Sony has been vague about its U.S. launch plans for the PlayStation Portable--and with good reason: Only 510,000 units were on hand for the Japanese launch in December. Finally, the company earlier this month announced a U.S. launch date of March 24 for PSP. But a related decision to market the PSP in a $249 product bundle stateside--$60 more than its price in Japan--caught many by surprise.

Industry analysts believe the company knows what it's doing. In-Stat's Brian O'Rourke said the aggressive pricing "means Sony is confident that the early adopters will crawl over glass shards to get their hands on a PSP." And International Data Group's Schelley Olhava projects Sony will move at least 1 million units of the portable as...
