When customers click the "Buy Now" button on a studio's home video Web site, they're usually sent directly to the studio's online store. But some majors are experimenting with links to external retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon. Titles on Buena Vista's video.com Web site are currently linked to Best Buy, but the studio has rotated through different dot-com and brick-and-mortar retailers over the past year, said Pat Fitzgerald, executive VP sales, distribution and trade marketing.

The site normally links to one or two at a time and varies the rotation schedule according to release dates and business opportunities, Fitzgerald said. The arrangement was prompted by retailers' approaching Buena Vista, and consumers have reacted positively, he added. ...
