More consumers are saying, "I want my DTV!" Newly released data from the Consumer Electronics Assn. shows month-over-month upticks in factory-to-dealer sales of digital TV sets throughout 2005 so far, with the exception of a blip between March and April. But even in both of those months DTV unit sales increased 46% and 47%, respectively, compared to the same months last year. "This year, it is predicted that consumers will buy more digital sets than analog," CEA chief Gary Shapiro said. This apparent surge in enthusiasm for digital sets would seem to bode good things for proponents of high-definition discs, particularly in light of CEA's noting that 86% are choosing what Shapiro calls "the best digital has to offer" or HDTV sets.
