Niche player Maverick Entertainment is looking to the unlikely combination of horror and Christian-themed films to grow its business over the next year or more.
Maverick's Spirit label will have one Christian or inspirational title per month beginning in November, according to Maverick president Doug Schwab. While many will be urban-oriented and appeal to women, the company also is looking to acquire "mainstream Christian films as tentpoles" Schwab says. The first of these will be Man of Faith, a first-quarter 2006 release featuring Robert Wagner and Faye Dunaway.
