The planned December launch HD DVD in Japan has been formally postponed until next year, according to a statement released last week by Toshiba, the format's principal developer. Though speculation about a possible delay had been growing in recent weeks, the formal announcement is a setback for Toshiba, which had hoped the Japan launch would give the format momentum heading into the International Consumer Electronics Show opening Jan.
