PS3 to hit field in November; Sony Electronics goes on the offensive with Blu-ray players, marketing.(PlayStation 3)

It was a week of mixed messages on the Blu-ray front. A day after Sony's videogame division confirmed it would delay the release of the PlayStation 3 due to Blu-ray copy-protection issues, the company's electronics division unveiled its first Blu-ray players and desktop computers with Blu-ray drives in Las Vegas and announced it would begin taking preorders on the players, which are due out this summer.

Sony Electronics also kicked off a pre-launch campaign for the players on SonyStyle.com to educate consumers about Blu-ray. This summer, the company will follow up with a "Blu" campaign in its 32 Style retail stores, including in-store product seminars and demos, informational materials and blue-tinted windows to draw attention to the new format, The...
