Sony Computer Entertainment lowered the price of the PlayStation 2 from $149 to $129 on April 20. The move also might boost sagging software sales. Sony hopes to entice price-sensitive consumers who have not already bought the machine. The PS2 remains the most popular home videogame system in the U.S., according to NPD Funworld data, with 277,000 units sold during March, followed by the next-generation Xbox 360 at 193,000 units.

"The price cut to $129 is in line with our thinking--leaving the cut to $99 in Sow's arsenal for 2007 or later," explained Harris Nesbitt senior VP Edward Williams in a research note.
