As Samsung showed off the first Blu-ray Disc players to Los Angeles media last week, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment introduced the first five movies on the Blu-ray format at retail.
Retailers said initial movie sales were slow without players on sale. On June 25, Samsung was scheduled to roll out a thin layer of players at 2,000 stores, ranging from Best Buy and Circuit City to high-end Crutchfield. Some Los Angeles-area Best Buy and Circuit City locations, however, jumped street date to sell players last week.
