Internet movie service CinemaNow scored two movie download coups last week, striking a first-time download-to-own deal with Disney and a first-ever TV download deal with Warner Bros. Both deals allow for viewing on up to three portable devices, the first studio movie download deals for portables.
The option will be available some time this month. CinemaNow already has download-to-own deals with Sony, MGM and Lionsgate, but those deals allow users to watch downloads only on the computer to which the movie was downloaded. Lionsgate is a backer of CinemaNow, along with Blockbuster, Microsoft and Cisco. Disney is the last major studio to sign a download-to-own distribution deal with either Movielink or CinemaNow.
