By Paul Sweeting The Web site CDRInfo (www.cdrinfo.com ) has published a helpful list of all the media formats--both packaged and digital--supported by Sony 's PlayStation 3 right out of the cardboard. Though all the information in the list was known before, seeing it compiled in one place provides a useful illustration of Sony's strategy for making its game console the center of the digital living room experience.
The physical formats supported are: BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD R, DVD RW, CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW. The list of digital file formats, as compiled by CDRInfo, includes MPEG-1, MPEG-2 (both PS and TS), MPEG-4 AVC, MPEG-4 SP, ATRAC, AAC, MP3, WAV, JPEG, GIF, PNG and TIFF.
