EPA expands buy-recycle plan.(Brief Article)

Washington - Federally funded workers soon will have to rethink how they buy their office furniture and bike racks. They are two of 11 items the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed adding to its federal buy-recycle program. Currently, there are 54 items on the list. Established in 1995 under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the comprehensive procurement guideline mandates that federal agencies, as well as state and local agencies using federal funds for procurement and contractors doing the same under a contract, find the highest recycled content possible when buying any item costing more than $10,000 or any item in bulk that cost more than $10,000 in the previous year.
