Washington - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will power three Ohio research facilities with renewable energy from wind power and landfill gas. Through an agreement with Community Energy Inc., a renewable energy marketing company, three facilities in Cincinnati will purchase a total of 15.6 million kilowatt-hours of wind-powered and landfill gas-powered energy annually for three years.
``The Bush Administration has asked the government to be the first to conserve energy,'' EPA Administrator Christie Whitman said. ``These purchases represent a creative and innovative approach to help solve our nation's energy crisis, while achieving tremendous environmental benefits and charting the way for the emerging green power market.''
